Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED)
DBED’s mission is to attract new businesses, stimulate private investment and create jobs, encourage the expansion and retention of existing companies and provide businesses in Maryland with workforce training and financial assistance. The department promotes the state's many economic advantages and markets local products and services at home and abroad to spur development, international trade and tourism. Because they are a major economic generator for the state, the department also supports the arts, film production, sports and other special events.
Maryland's Business Licensing Information System (BLIS)
BLIS provides an online information system for all state licensing information. Separate from State license requirements, there are no City or County business licenses, with the exception of the following: electricians, plumbers, gas, utilities and home improvements. Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulations (DLLR)
DLLR provides assistance in job searches, providing unemployment insurance compensation, and reporting on the needs and demands of the labor market.
Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
This regional Hispanic chamber strives to help businesses in Maryland and elsewhere gain a competitive edge, and champion them, large and small.
Tech Council of Maryland/MDBio (TCM/MDBio)
The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) is Maryland's largest technology trade association which brings its 500 plus members access to technology industry leaders in Maryland, DC and Virginia. TCM has two divisions which provide valuable resources and benefits to help businesses succeed. The Tech Alliance serves the advanced technology community and MdBio serves the Maryland biotechnology community. There is also a Frederick Network of the Tech Council, which meets monthly to plan local events and discuss ways of supporting and promoting the Frederick technology community.
Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO)
TEDCO was created by the Maryland General Assembly in 1998 to “(1) Assist in transferring to the private sector and commercializing the results and products of scientific research and development conducted by colleges and universities; (2) Assist in the commercialization of technology developed in the private sector; and (3) foster the commercialization of research and development…to create and sustain businesses throughout all regions of the State” and “to promote entrepreneurship and the creation of jobs in technology-related industry by establishing and operating effective incubators throughout the State that provide adequate physical space designed, and programs intended, to increase or accelerate business success in the field of technology.”
University of Maryland – Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPS)
Developed to assist companies in the development of new and improved products, services or processes that will help businesses compete in their markets and that will lead to economic benefit to the state. MIPS provides matching funds for technology-based research projects at the University System of Maryland's (USM) 13 institutions. This is an opportunity for companies to gain leverage for their R&D dollars, expertise and the use of specialized facilities at any of the USM institutions.
